Vital Result 1.16 Artistic Dimension. It includes: Skills Development, Making Connections, Approach To Work, and Reflection & Critique.

Students learn best when teachers...

*Focus on the artistic process

*Build excitement and help students experience success in art

*Foster risk-taking, encourage self-confidence, and nurture imagination

*Challenge and encourage students to problem solve using divergent thinking

*Discuss with students the various reasons for creating art, including personal satisfaction

*Display student artwork in the school and community to instill pride

*Provide opportunities for students to attend arts performances and exhibits at least once a year

*Enlist the help of community members in broadening students' art experiences through mentors, artists-in- residences, apprenticeships, presentations, etc.

*Provide opportunities for reflection and authentic assessment

*Expose students to an historical and cultural perspective

*Vary approaches, materials, and activities:

-Accommodate the students' individual learning styles

-Expand students' experiences of art, and

-Expose students to a wide variety of art media & techniques
